WHO BELONGS, AND WHO DOESN’T?
PRISONTOWN RETURNS TO THE BAY
AREA WITH ENCORE AT TOWN HALL THEATRE
Town Hall Theatre Company, in partnership with the Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao House, welcomes an encore production of PRISONTOWN by Lee Osorio for two performances only: Friday, July 3rd at 7:00pm and Sunday, July 5th at 2:00pm.
Written by acclaimed actor and playwright Lee Osorio and directed by Richard Perez, Prisontown follows a Writer drawn back to his hometown of Lumpkin, Georgia, a once-thriving community now bound to one of the nation’s largest and most notorious federal immigration detention centers. What begins as an unsettling pull home becomes a journey of faith, memory, and moral reckoning as the Writer confronts his own past as a queer, Latine son of an immigrant and the systems that shape who is seen, forgotten, detained, or asked to look away.
In this 90-minute, one-actor performance, Prisontown tells an origin story with powerful simplicity, using wit, nuance, humor, and compassion to reflect on the people trapped in this prison town, the past lives the Writer could have lived, and the heartbreaking reality of the America we all live in today.
Arriving over July 4th weekend during the nation’s 250th anniversary year, Prisontown offers a uniquely American story about belonging, extraction, immigration, and the human cost of systems that ask communities to depend on the dehumanization of others.
This production contains discussions of immigration detention, human rights violations, the emotional toll on both detainees and guards, and strong language.
“Prisontown asks urgent questions about who belongs, who benefits, and what it costs when a community’s survival becomes tied to confinement,” shared Town Hall Theatre Executive Director Morgan Dayley. “We are honored to partner with the Eugene O’Neill Foundation to bring Lee Osorio’s powerful work back to Bay Area audiences for two timely encore performances.”
