The Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area (DSCBA) is seeking an experienced, relationship-focused Business Development Specialist to help grow and diversify the financial resources that support our mission.

Founded in 1998, DSCBA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers, inspires, and supports people with Down syndrome, their families, and the communities that serve them while fostering awareness and acceptance in all areas of life.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Business Development Specialist will lead fundraising and donor-engagement efforts involving individual donors, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, annual appeals, planned giving, and community partnerships. This position will cultivate and steward relationships with new and existing donors, sponsors, foundations, businesses, and community partners while developing strategies that strengthen DSCBA’s long-term financial sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising and business-development strategy

  • Cultivating relationships with individual donors, major-gift prospects, corporate sponsors, foundations, and local businesses

  • Identifying and securing new funding, sponsorship, advertising, and partnership opportunities

  • Collaborating with the Executive Director on major-gift strategy and solicitation

  • Managing donor cultivation, stewardship, acknowledgment, and retention efforts

  • Supporting direct-mail, email, Giving Tuesday, year-end, and other fundraising campaigns

  • Working with DSCBA’s grant writer on proposal strategies, submissions, and reports

  • Developing event sponsorship and advertising packages with the Executive Director and events team

  • Maintaining accurate donor and prospect records in Salesforce, Classy, and other organizational databases

  • Providing fundraising updates, analysis, and recommendations to the Executive Director and Board of Directors

  • Representing DSCBA at donor meetings, networking opportunities, community events, and stewardship activities

Qualified candidates will have at least five years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or donor development and a demonstrated record of securing gifts, sponsorships, or other financial support. Strong communication, public speaking, relationship-building, organizational, and follow-through skills are essential. Familiarity with donor databases and the Bay Area philanthropic community is highly desirable.

This is a part-time, hourly position scheduled for approximately 20–25 hours per week, with the possibility of expanded hours in the future. Compensation is $35–$40 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated results.

The position offers a hybrid schedule with occasional in-office presence at DSCBA’s Danville location. There will be local travel, within the 9 counties of the greater Bay Area, for donor meetings, grant awards and check presentations, donor/sponsor cultivation activities, etc.

Employment is subject to completion of a background check.
